For brands and retailers preparing to launch on OTTO Market
OTTO marketplace onboarding is the work of getting your business accepted onto OTTO Market, connecting your catalogue and going live on otto.de with German listings that are ready to sell. EcommTech checks your eligibility, prepares the application, connects your products by feed or API and supports your first 90 days of selling.
At a glance
- Who it is for: companies with a registered office in Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Austria, France or Denmark, which OTTO lists as eligible.
- What we handle: eligibility check, application support, Partner Connect setup, product data and German listings, catalogue connection and launch.
- OTTO’s costs: a monthly basic fee of €99.90 plus a commission per item sold that depends on the product group (OTTO’s published figures).
- Our proof: a verified Channable feed project publishing one catalogue to Kaufland, OTTO and Allegro, and MarktRank, our own OTTO rank tracker.
- Commercials: scope and fee agreed in writing. Month to month, no lock-in.
What does OTTO marketplace onboarding involve?
OTTO marketplace onboarding is the process between applying as a seller and taking your first orders on otto.de. OTTO reviews every application individually, verifies your company through OTTO Payments, and then asks you to set up logistics, create products and go live from its partner portal, OTTO Partner Connect.
OTTO’s own registration process runs in this order:
- Submit the application form and wait for OTTO’s review.
- Log in to OTTO Partner Connect and set up two-factor authentication.
- Accept the terms of use and the OTTO Payments framework agreement.
- Enter legitimation details: company, payment data, legal representatives and beneficial owners.
- Pass the OTTO Payments legitimation check, which OTTO says can take up to 15 business days.
- Add tax, Impressum, legal and contact information.
- Set up shipping providers, costs and at least one shipping profile.
- Create products in the portal or via the OTTO Market API, place a test order and click “Start Selling Now”.
Who can sell on OTTO Market?
OTTO accepts companies with an approved legal form and registered office in Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Austria, France or Denmark, with their own VAT ID. Small businesses under § 19 UStG are excluded, and non-German EU companies must take part in the OSS procedure.
Other requirements OTTO publishes include:
- Customer service in German.
- Shipping from a warehouse in Germany or the EU, and returns to Germany or selected EU countries.
- A SEPA business bank account for OTTO Payments.
- Packaging registration (VerpackG / ZSVR) and, where relevant, electrical take-back and WEEE details.
- Agreement to the Otto Group’s sustainability declaration, with some materials and products prohibited.
If your company is based in the UK or outside these countries, we will tell you so honestly in the audit rather than take on a project that cannot be approved. Our guide on how to sell on OTTO covers the basics.
What is included in our OTTO onboarding service?
We cover the practical work that slows most launches down: preparing documents, building German product data and connecting your systems.
| Stage | What we do |
|---|---|
| Eligibility check | Review legal form, VAT, logistics and assortment against OTTO’s published requirements |
| Application support | Prepare the information and documents OTTO asks for, so the review and legitimation steps run smoothly |
| Partner Connect setup | Shipping profiles, company and legal information, and user access with your own permissions |
| Product data | Map your catalogue to OTTO categories and attributes, with German titles and descriptions |
| Catalogue connection | Connect by feed tool such as Channable, by OTTO Market API, or by manual upload for small ranges |
| Test and go-live | Test order, stock and price checks, then launch |
| First 90 days | Listing fixes, rank tracking with MarktRank and, if wanted, Sponsored Product Ads |
How does onboarding with EcommTech work?
Onboarding runs in four steps, with daily communication from your named account manager until you are live. You own the OTTO account from day one.
- Free audit: we check your eligibility, catalogue and current systems and send a written audit within 3 working days.
- Plan and fixed fee: we agree scope, timeline steps and a fixed fee in writing.
- Application and connection: we support your application, build German product data and connect your catalogue by feed or API.
- Launch and first 90 days: we run the test order, go live and send weekly reports on sales, rankings and account health.
How do you connect a catalogue to OTTO?
You can create products manually in OTTO Partner Connect, upload them through the OTTO Market API, or work with a connector or feed tool. For most sellers with more than a handful of products, a feed or API connection is the reliable choice because stock and prices stay in sync.
Our verified example: on Upwork, our founder set up and validated a Channable product feed so one catalogue publishes to Kaufland, OTTO and Allegro with stock and prices in sync. The client rated the project 5.0/5 (November 2025). If you already use other software, we check in the audit whether it can connect to OTTO before recommending it.
What happens in the first 90 days on OTTO?
The first 90 days decide whether a new OTTO account gains traction. New products need complete German listings, competitive prices and visibility, and you need early data to see which products and keywords sell.
- Weeks 1–4: fix data errors, complete attributes and confirm orders, shipping and returns run correctly.
- Weeks 5–8: track keyword positions with MarktRank and improve listings that are not ranking.
- Weeks 9–12: test OTTO Sponsored Product Ads on your strongest products and agree the ongoing plan.
After launch, you can move to our full OTTO marketplace management service or manage the account yourself.

How long does OTTO onboarding take?
OTTO gives no fixed time for application review. It says the OTTO Payments legitimation check can take up to 15 business days. Prepared documents and product data help avoid extra delays.
What does OTTO charge sellers?
OTTO publishes a monthly basic fee of €99.90 and a commission per item sold, which depends on the product group. Our onboarding fee is separate and agreed in writing.
