Amazon PPC agency pricing usually follows one of four models: a fixed monthly retainer, a percentage of ad spend, a percentage of sales, or a hybrid of these, sometimes with a setup fee. Your ad spend is paid to Amazon separately. The right model is the one whose incentives match your goals and whose total cost you can predict.
At a glance
- Two costs: the agency fee, and the ad spend Amazon charges you for clicks.
- Fixed retainer: predictable, and not tied to how much you spend.
- % of ad spend: scales with account size, but can reward spending more.
- % of sales: feels aligned, but can reward sales that ads did not create.
- Compare quotes: on total monthly cost at your real spend and sales, plus scope and notice period.
Amazon PPC agency pricing is the fee an agency charges to manage your Amazon advertising, separate from the money you spend on ads. We have not quoted market price ranges in this guide, because published figures vary widely and are rarely verifiable. Instead, use the models below to compare the quotes you receive.
What are you actually paying for?
You pay two separate bills: Amazon charges you for clicks on your ads, and the agency charges a management fee. Amazon says Sponsored Products have no monthly or upfront fees, so any fixed or recurring charge you see comes from the agency, not Amazon.
Amazon’s Sponsored Products page describes them as cost-per-click ads where you set a maximum bid and a daily budget. Its budget guide adds that the daily budget is averaged over the calendar month, so daily spend can vary. Keep this in mind when an agency fee depends on spend.
Which Amazon PPC fee models do agencies use?
Most agencies charge a fixed monthly retainer, a percentage of ad spend, a percentage of sales, or a hybrid with a base fee plus a variable part. Some add a one-off setup fee or charge separately for an audit. Each model changes what the agency is rewarded for.
| Model | How it works | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fixed monthly retainer | Same fee each month for an agreed scope | Predictable; no reward for higher spend | Scope must be clear, or work can shrink to fit the fee |
| % of ad spend | Fee is a share of what you spend on Amazon Ads | Scales with account size | Agency earns more when you spend more, efficient or not |
| % of sales / revenue share | Fee is a share of ad-attributed or total sales | Feels tied to results | Can reward sales that would have happened anyway; cost rises as you grow |
| Hybrid | Base fee plus a percentage element | Covers the agency’s base cost and shares upside | Harder to predict and compare |
| Setup / onboarding fee | One-off charge for audit, restructure and launch | Pays for heavy first-month work | Money spent before you see ongoing service |
Where do the incentives go wrong?
Incentives go wrong when the fee grows for reasons that do not help your profit. Percentage-of-spend fees can reward raising budgets, and percentage-of-sales fees can reward claiming credit for organic sales. A fixed fee removes both problems but needs a clear written scope.
Percentage of ad spend
If the fee rises with spend, the agency benefits from higher budgets even when extra spend is unprofitable. Ask how they decide when to cut spend, and look for examples in their reports of budgets going down as well as up.
Percentage of sales
Check which sales count. Ad-attributed sales come from Amazon’s reports. Total sales include organic orders the agency may not have influenced, and they rise with seasonality, price changes and new listings. If you agree to this model, define the sales figure and the baseline in writing.
Fixed retainer
The risk is under-servicing. Fix the scope: marketplaces, ad types, number of products, reporting frequency and review calls. Then a fixed fee is the easiest to compare and budget for.
Whatever the model, judge performance on profit, not one metric. Amazon’s ACOS guide says ACOS should stay below your profit margin and that it should not be the only metric you track. Our post on ACoS vs TACoS explains how to see the wider effect on total sales.
What is typically included in an Amazon PPC management fee?
A management fee typically covers campaign setup or restructure, ongoing keyword and bid management, reporting and regular review calls. Creative work, listing changes and extra marketplaces are often scoped separately. Ask for the inclusions as a written list.
- Account audit and campaign structure (see Amazon PPC campaign structure).
- Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display management, or only some of them.
- Search term reviews, negative keywords, bid and placement changes, budget pacing.
- Reporting frequency and format.
- Strategy or review calls.
- Which marketplaces are covered, for example UK plus Germany.
What hidden costs should you look for?
Hidden costs usually sit in the small print: charges for extra marketplaces or products, paid software passed on to you, creative work billed separately, and long notice periods. Ask for a full written list of anything that could be billed beyond the headline fee.
- Per-marketplace or per-ASIN charges: a low fee may cover one country or a handful of products.
- Software: some agencies pass on bid-management tool subscriptions.
- Creative: Sponsored Brands video, Store design and listing images may be extra.
- Minimum terms and notice: a cheap monthly fee with a long lock-in can cost more than a higher fee you can cancel.
- Exit costs: confirm campaigns stay in your account and nothing is charged to hand them back.
- Ad spend decisions: who can raise your budget, and up to what limit, without asking you?
How should you compare Amazon PPC agency quotes?
Convert every quote into a total monthly cost using your real ad spend and sales, then compare scope, reporting and notice period side by side. The cheapest headline fee is not always the cheapest option once spend and sales grow.
- Write down your current monthly ad spend and sales.
- Calculate each agency’s fee at today’s numbers and at the level you hope to reach in a year.
- List what each quote includes and excludes.
- Compare reporting: weekly or monthly, explained or just exported.
- Compare terms: notice period, setup fees, exit process.
- Ask each agency for a written audit first. A free audit costs you nothing and shows how they think.

Frequently asked questions
Is ad spend included in Amazon PPC agency pricing?
Usually not. Amazon charges you directly for clicks, and the agency charges a separate management fee. Check each quote to confirm which costs it covers.
Is a percentage of ad spend or a fixed fee better?
A fixed fee is predictable and does not reward higher spend. A percentage of ad spend scales with your account but can reward spending more. Choose based on incentives and total cost at your real spend.
Does Amazon charge a monthly fee for Sponsored Products?
No. Amazon says Sponsored Products have no monthly or upfront fees. You pay per click, within the daily budget you set.
Should I pay for an Amazon PPC audit?
Many agencies offer a free audit before you sign. A paid audit can make sense from an independent consultant, but agree in writing what it will cover first.
